In the far future, Earth (around the 2050's, just before/after the events of modern combat 5) was no longer able to sustain life on its surface. Because of that, huge satellites called "Near Orbitals", were designed and built for people to live on. In order to protect themselves, mankind formed a group called the Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance.
Overview[]
The Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance is the Earthlish Regime's best armed forces unit, equipping its marines with state-of-the-art technology such as Mobile Armoured Suits and AI advisors. As such, they not only protect Near Orbitals what with apparent alien threats such as the Xenos and the Volterites. They act as protectors of humanity's best interest, answering to the Earthlish Regime. In N.O.V.A. 1, marines are stationed on the Colonial Pride and, also at the Epsilon Bunker and Mining Facility (although those at the mining facility were infected by Xeno Parasites) on New Ceres. At that time, many planets were ruled by the Ceresian State. However, their leader, Gerard Folsom, decided to become an ally of the Volterites, forming the Human-Volterite Alliance. Gerard Folsom was appointed to be the president of the Ceresian Republic, which was a puppet regime controlled by the Human-Volterite Alliance.
It is important to be informed that besides the Earthlish Regime, another regime called the Earthling Regime also existed. Sometimes these two regimes were wrongly deemed to be the same. In fact, the Earthling Regime was built by some politicians who wanted to maintain order on the planets where humans who left the Near Orbitals around Earth to seek shelter lived on after the Human-Volterite Alliance was overthrown. It was because after the Alliance fell, the Near Orbitals were attacked by many rogues. On another hand, the Earthlish Regime had been built since the Great War ended, and it controlled the Near Orbitals around Earth only.
The leaders of these two regimes once considered to merged them into the one single regime, and the Earthling Regime sent troops to Earth in order to help the Earthlish Regime defend this planet. However, because of being afraid of the happening of a massive war, the citizens of the Earthling Regime became increasingly anti-Earthlish Regime, forcing the Earthling Regime to let the Overseer to take control of its army. Because of this decision, the Volterite became more powerful, and then they formed an alliance with the Terran Regime, which took control of the planets where residents were very pro-Volterite, resulting in the formation of the Dominion. The Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance didn't give up and started fighting against the Dominion. In response, the Terran Regime allowed the Volterite Protectorate to take control of Earth, forcing the Earthling Regime to pull out its troops from the planet to avoid conflicts.
Because of the fear of being attacked by the Volterite Protectorate, the Earthling Regime stayed neutral and requested the Earthlish Regime to order N.O.V.A. forces to stop their military operations. However, N.O.V.A. forces ignored its request and continued to fight against the Dominion.
